Weather in July
Peak dry season. Consistently dry, sunny days with comfortable temperatures. Cool mornings in Bwindi's highlands, warming through the day. The most reliable weather of the year.
Trail Conditions
Excellent. The firmest, driest trails of the year. Minimal mud, good visibility, and the most comfortable trekking conditions. Even the steepest sections are manageable.
Pros
- Best weather of the year — dry, warm, sunny
- Firmest trails — most comfortable trekking
- Excellent for photography — clear light
- Ideal for combining gorilla + safari
- Gorillas often at lower altitudes — shorter treks possible
Cons
- Most expensive month
- Busiest month — full trekking groups
- Permits sell out months ahead
- Lodges often fully booked
- Less intimate experience than low season
Wildlife Highlight
Animals in savanna parks concentrate around water sources, making Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls excellent for game viewing. In Bwindi, dry conditions often mean shorter treks as gorillas feed at lower altitudes.
Permit Availability
Limited. July is the busiest month. Book 3–6 months ahead. Some dates sell out entirely.
Prices
Highest. Peak-season rates at all lodges. Expect premium pricing across the board.
Insider Tip
If you must trek in July, book everything 4–6 months ahead. Ask us to request a gorilla family in a less-visited sector (Rushaga or Nkuringo instead of Buhoma) for a quieter experience even in peak season.
