Ishasha Sector

Famous for its rare tree-climbing lions. A quieter, more exclusive corner of Queen Elizabeth National Park.

The Ishasha sector is the southern section of Queen Elizabeth National Park, located close to the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo. It is best known for its population of tree-climbing lions, which are regularly spotted lounging on the branches of large fig trees — a behavior that is rare and fascinating to observe. Ishasha offers a quieter, more exclusive safari experience compared to the busier northern sections of the park.

  • Observe diverse wildlife including elephants, buffalo, topi, hippos and abundant birdlife.
  • Combine with a Bwindi gorilla trekking trip — Ishasha is conveniently located on the route between QENP and Bwindi.
