Weather in February
The warmest and often driest month. Temperatures can reach 28°C in lower areas. Bwindi's highland forest stays cooler (16–24°C). Very little rain in most years.
Trail Conditions
Excellent condition. February is often the driest month, meaning the best trail conditions of the year. Minimal mud, firm ground, and easy footing.
Pros
- Often the driest month — best trail conditions
- Warm and sunny — great for photography
- Fewer tourists — quieter trekking experience
- Good permit availability
- Standard lodge prices — no premium
Cons
- Late February can see the first pre-rain showers
- Slightly hotter than other months — bring sun protection
- Vegetation can look drier compared to green season
Wildlife Highlight
Dry conditions push animals to water sources, improving wildlife sightings in Queen Elizabeth and Murchison Falls. Excellent birding with some Palearctic migrants still present.
Permit Availability
Good. February is not a peak tourist month, so permits are generally available with 4–6 weeks notice. Popular dates may still require earlier booking.
Prices
Medium. Standard rates at most lodges. No high-season surcharges. Good value for excellent conditions.
Insider Tip
February is our personal favourite month for gorilla trekking. The trails are at their best, the weather is warm, and you often share the forest with very few other visitors. If you have flexibility, choose February.
